Environment
Whether burial or cremation, the environmental impact of a funeral can be minimised by opting for one of a number of alternative coffins. The fittings on the popular veneered chipboard coffin can also be adapted to suit personal preferences by using wooden fittings as opposed to plastic or metal. People choose these alternatives very often due to environmental concerns but occasionally because the person involved had wanted a simple in elaborate funeral.
We can supply a variety of coffins ranging from a robust cardboard coffin in a range of finishes to a handcrafted, sustainably produced coppice willow casket. There is also a pine coffin made with no plastic, stains or varnishes - just sustainably produced pine and a non-toxic biodegradable glue.
Alternative Coffins
We can arrange the funeral of your loved one with as much consideration for the environment as possible. We can supply a choice of coffins ranging from a simple but robust cardboard coffin in a choice of finishes (wood grain, marble, white) from Greenfield Coffins, to a more elaborate willow coffin made from local sustainable produced coppice wood. Woodland/Meadowland Burial
There is increasing concern within society for the protection of the environment. However, many people do not realise that since 1949 woodland clearance has increased and 50% of our ancient woods (35 million trees) have been lost.
This loss is not only to the landscape but to the associated wildlife. A single mature oak can be a home to several hundred species of insects, birds and mammals whilst the bark supports many mosses and ferns.
We are currently looking to secure a site in the local area for woodland burials, meanwhile, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council's Bereavement Service have set aside an area within Rose Hill Cemetery for Woodland and Meadowland Burials. The area for woodland burials is situated in an area where there are already some well established trees. The area for meadowland burials is situated in a secluded part of the cemetery away from the traditional burial area, providing an area where new trees will be allowed to flourish and remain. This will help to create a woodland habitat which will encourage a growth in the population of birds, mammals, insects and flowers. Woodland graves offer the opportunity for those departed to "return to nature" and help contribute to the formation and preservation of a natural and beautiful woodland.
